Since its establishment in 2015, the Translation and Categorized Corpus Research Center of Hefei University of Technology (HFUT) has relied on the advantages of the School of Foreign Studies (SFS) to carry out research and application in the following fields:
1. Applied Research of Interpreting and Translation
Research and application research related to interpreting and translation include but not limited to theoretical and practical studies on interpreting and translation, translation and linguistics, literature, culture, cognitive science, sociology and other relevant fields or disciplines.
2. Research on the Construction of Categorized Corpus
Based on the preponderant disciplines of the university, this center creates categorized English-Chinese bilingual corpora and carries out relevant research to serve the teachers and students of HFUT for their teaching and academic studies. The center also provides categorized corpus resources, consultation services, and other relevant support for government departments, enterprises and public institutions.
3. Research on Language and National Soft Power
Based on the outcomes from the integrated research of language and translation, this center carries out investigations on present translation practice of public signs, promotional materials, English websites or relevant texts of governments and enterprises, as well as practical interpreting on the occasions of foreign affairs-related activities and business talks. In addition, it further studies the influence of language and translation on the going global of Chinese culture and the development of the national soft power. The center also offers language policy and application consulting services to government departments, businesses and public institutions.
4. Research on Corpus and Teaching Integration
This center applies corpora into translation and language teaching for the improvement of teaching quality.
